Innovative Solutions

INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS mean solving the 'unsolvable' problems.

Is there a part of your home or office that you wish functioned better and looked beautiful?

Is it too big a job for you, but too small a job for a general contractor ?

That is what we do best.

70s Entry Bench and Storage

The customer wanted a 70s inspired solution for their entryway. We salvaged white oak for this project and custom mixed a stain to match the wood trim in the rest of the house. The tall cabinet has a door that slides open over the bench to accomodate the exterior door.

Feng Shui Fix :
Stained glass window

The customer did not want to see into the upstairs bathroom from the front entrance. They had been using a room divider and needed a better solution. Our fix was to install self-closing hinges on the bathroom door, and install a stained glass window in the bathroom door to still allow light into the dark stairway.

Multipurpose Entry Solution :

Shelf, Mail Slot, Radiator Cover, Handrail

Some of the items that OIC Projects recommended are a handrail for the stairs to the garage, a matching window sill, and a entry way bench. When building  multiple solutions together we can tie utility and style together while also matching or enhancing existing elements like this beautiful oak floor.

This multi purpose entryway piece most likely needs some explanation. This is an older Detroit house that has hot water heat that is integrated into the wall system to remove the radiators from living space. OIC Projects was called in because this wall was just a big hole after a leek was repaired. The original idea was source and cut the base to match other existing intake cutouts and take a vent found in the attic and cut it down to fit. The old vent was misplaced. Giving the customer an estimate for that as well as a few other options he oppted for what you see here.

Custom door for 100 year old Detroit home

This old house needed a custom fit door. The metal frame is welded to the the doorway's specifications and the wood and glass details add a modern touch. The customer selected the green bracket color to match their personal style.

This door turned out great however it was not as straight forward as it looks. This house was built using double clay brick walls, not that common of a building construction. the features of the knee wall seen on the left as well as the load barring wall on the right ( seen in the right picture) restricted the size of this door without major reconstruction.

Over the years the house has settled and changed the shape of the door frame. The frame is original as creating a new one would shrink this already smaller then average door. The steel door was made to this shape and size with the addition of retrofit door seals and a door sweep. The customer was pleased adding that "The door shuts like a 50s Cadillac!". High praise from a Detroit resident.

For Designers and Home Owners :

Gallery Wall Layout and Art installations

Hanging either our projects, other artists work, or store purchased décor is that final touch that is has a impact on the impression of the pieces. OIC Projects is dedicated to placing your pieces with the care and consideration you used to select the piece. Installations can pose a whole host of complications, below are a few that we have encountered. OIC Projects takes pride in working with the customer or designer to display compositions with laser accuracy literally

This composition of steel letters and sports images challenged our team with the mounting of each letter having unique mounting measurements as well as with letters "Kerning" comes in to play to display a balanced spacing look between the letters. In the end however a strait, specific spacing on the height, centered and level installation brings the designers concept to reality.

The customer had found these handcrafted cutting boards and wanted to do a collection on a wall across from the kitchen. We came up with a arrangement on the floor for quick and easy visualization,  applied the hardware,  and finally mounted the arrangement on the wall with carful attention to the precise measurements taken from the lay out. The asymmetrical balance was was interesting and played well with the mix of size cutting boards.

This was actually a last minute request from a customer to take a look at a previous installation that they had concerns that it was not secure. This composition is made up of six 3 panel mirrors and were hot glued together. OIC Projects hung each individually and with spacing that would allow removal of each for easy cleaning.

It may look like a straight forward layout of a pin board and inspirational posters on either side now. This installation looks that way because of a skilled Interior designer. The placement of desk and chairs were done after the designer chose the location for this collection. On move day a lot of moving parts are going at once it helps to work with great people.
